Prescriptions

Dispensing

The surgery dispenses medication prescribed at the surgery to patients who live more that 1-mile form a chemist. Patients living in Madeley are required to take their prescriptions to a chemist.

Acute prescriptions

These are new items issued by a doctor or nurse who assessed you. Medication can be dispensed for you if you are a dispensing patient, usually we haveĀ items in stock which are available to take away there and then, if the medication is out of stock we can order it for you to collect or alternatively you may take a prescription to an outside pharmacy. Those who are non-dispensing patients can take the prescription to a pharmacy of their choice.

Repeat Prescriptions

These are medications that you need to take regularly as agreed with your doctor. They are authorised and collected monthly from reception. All repeat medication needs to be adequately supervised. This involves seeing the doctor and may require a blood test. The doctor sets the frequency of these reviews.

Your prescription counterfoil will inform you when your review is due. Please book this review appointment before medication authorisations are out of date.
